Ghar Studio · Sandton, Johannesburg

Tell us the room. We’ll tell you what belongs in it.

The people who decide what earns a place on our floor decide what earns a place in your home. Begin the brief below. It’s roughly how a consult opens.

Fewer pieces, larger. One texture repeated until it stops being a decision.

A sketch, not a scheme.
Pieces are one of one, so availability moves daily.

How it works

Three steps, one afternoon.

01

Book a consult

Sixty minutes, in our store or online. R1 500, credited in full against anything you buy.

02

We read the room

Plans, photographs, rough measurements. Bring them in or send them through. We look at what the room has to do, then mesh that with how you want it to feel.

03

We design it with you

A direction, a palette, and a shortlist of pieces on the floor now, held for seven days while you decide.

Sourced,
not stocked.

Brand overstock, end-of-range, ex-display, pieces written off by people who count in pallets. We look at them one at a time and turn most of them down. What reaches the floor is here because someone stood in front of it and said yes.

Made close
to home.

When the thing your room needs does not exist, we have it made. Small runs, named makers, an honest lead time. It costs more than importing it, and we would rather explain why than pretend otherwise.

Commissioned locally

A room is not a shopping list.

Our designers spend the rest of the week on commercial and residential projects, the kind with drawings, deadlines and a quantity surveyor. Studio is that same eye, pointed at one room, for the length of an afternoon.

Made here

The people who make what we cannot find.

Sourcing covers most of a room. The rest gets commissioned from workshops we can drive to, in runs small enough that someone’s name is attached.

Nothing here needed to be made twice.

Every sourced piece carries a figure: the carbon it saved by not being manufactured again. It sits next to the price, because it is the same kind of fact.

One of oneMost pieces are non-repeatable, so we design around what is on the floor now, not what is orderable later.
Green pointsCO₂e avoided versus buying the piece new, shown on every listing. Own-range items earn none, and we say so.
Kept, not scrappedFrames reupholstered, carcasses refinished. What we are saving is the material, not the label on it.
